This is a simple basketweave cowl. I wrote this pattern for my Knitting 101 class. It is designed so that people learning to knit would be able to get comfortable working with both the knit stitch and the purl stitch. I included a chart, not that it was needed, but so that people could get used to seeing a chart.

I used less than one skein of worsted yarn. As long as you have sets of 10 rows, you can go for as long or as short as you like. You can also increase the width of the cowl if you don’t care to have something so close to the neck by increases of 10 stitches.

The needle should be a 24” or smaller circular. Any larger and you won’t be able to close the round.
