Hat is knitted in purple haze.

100% cotton makes this a great addition to a baby’s new wardrobe - easy to wash, and a snug warm fit especially for colder days.


  • Wool and the Gang Shiny Happy Cotton, DK weight (155 yds, 100 g)
  • US #4 double pointed needles (DPNs)
  • Stitch markers (1 different for beginning of round)
  • Tapestry needle

Body: 19 stitches x 30 rounds = 4 x 4 inches in stockinette stitch
Ribbing: 20 stitches x 32 rounds = 4 x 4 inches in 1 x 1 rib (unstretched)
Finished Body Circumference: 12 ½ inches


CO 60 stitches. Place marker and join in the round, careful not to twist the stitches.
Round 1: *K1, p1, repeat from* to end of round.
Repeat Round 1 until ribbing measures 3 inches from cast on edge.

Work in stockinette stitch until hat measures 5 ½ inches from cast on edge.

Round 1: (k1, ssk, k10, k2tog place a marker that is different than the end-of-round marker) three times, k1, ssk, k10, k2tog. [8 stitches decreased, 52 stitches total]
Round 2: Knit.
Round 3: *K1, ssk, knit to 2 stitches before marker, k2tog, slip marker, repeat from * to the end of round.

Repeat Rounds 2 and 3 until 20 stitches remain.

Final Round: K2tog across round. [10 stitches]

Cut yarn, leaving a 12-inch tail. Thread the tail onto a tapestry needle, sew it through the remaining stitches, and pull tight! Bring the tail to the inside of the hat and weave in. Weave in any remaining ends.
