The Grand Plan series of articles by Ann Budd was eventually compiled into a book, The Knitter’s Handy Book of Patterns. A chart form pattern: plug in your gauge and desired size and cast on the number of stitches listed, then follow the chart to complete the project.

The project featured in the article used the following:
Yarn: Dale of Norway/Dalegarn Free Style
Yarn weight: Aran / 10 ply (8 wpi)
Gauge: 20 stitches = 4 inches St St
Needle size: US 8 / 5.0 mm

Basic tam/beret pattern can be made in 3 weights of yarn and customized as the knitter prefers. Suggested yarns in other weights are some of those used by the staff to make their adaptations.

Fingering wt: 28 st/4 in: Sport wt.: 24 st/4 in/; Worsted wt.: 20 st/4 inches.
