Basil is oversized for a very comfortable and relaxed fit. Depending on the yarn chosen, it can be worn in virtually any season. I recommend a yarn that has little body so the finished fabric will drape. I would also suggest that you not use a particularly heavy yarn (weight not bulk) so the sweater won’t stretch too much in length as you wear it. The pictured sweater is made in a silk/wool blend, but a bamboo or linen would be nice, too.
Basil is made up of 7 separate panels, 3 front, 3 back and 1 across the shoulders.
The panels are joined using a backstitch to create an exposed seam.
The collar and sleeves are picked up and worked after the panels are joined.
The pattern includes a schematic and a diagram of the shoulder panel.
