Beastly is a cabled raglan unisex cardigan for toddlers. It is worked flat from the bottom up, with ribbed sleeves worked in the round from the bottom up and joined to the body at the yoke. Stitches are picked up for the button band afterward. There are two small underarm seams.

The majority of the pattern instructions are charted, not written.

Yarn: You will need approximately 300 yards of an aran-weight wool for best results. (Pictured: Classic Elite Yarns Bazic Wool in Trojan Blue – aran, 5 skeins / 250g / 325 yards, 100% wool)

Supplies:

  • 16” (or longer) US size 8 circular needle
  • Four US size 8 double-pointed needles
  • US size 8 cable needle or other cabling method of your choice
  • stitch holder or waste yarn
  • Five 1” buttons
  • needle and thread
  • tapestry needle

Sizing: Finished cardigan will measure approximately 18” in circumference at the waist and approximately 11” in length from the shoulder to the hem when laid flat. It will fit most 12- to 18-month-old children with approximately 1” negative ease. See schematic for more detailed measurements.
