Meet our knit Beaver. She’s cute, cuddly and is looking forward to meeting you. This pattern supplies directions for making our Beaver.

This Beaver is suitable for advanced beginner knitters and assumes an understanding of basic stitches and standard knitting terms as well as understanding the concept for short rows. An understanding of how to sew together stuffed animals is not required, but does make things easier. Our Beaver is knit flat and sewn together using a mattress stitch.

If you’re new to knitting stuffed friends, or are uncomfortable winging it without strict guidelines (that’s OK, we all need good directions sometimes to help us out) you will need approximately 68 m of medium weight light brown (LB) coloured yarn, and 48 m of medium weight dark brown (DB) yarn and 1 m of medium weight white (W) yarn. With this yarn, use 4 mm (US size 6) needles. You will also need a small amount of yarn for embroidering the face, stuffing (we use ecofil or wool) and a tapestry needle to sew your beaver together. This will let you create a beaver that’s approximately 19 cm (7 inches) in length.

The beauty of knitting stuffed friends is that this pattern can be knit in any size yarn with accompanying needles. Generally we find using a size or two smaller needles than required by the yarn allows for the tightness needed when you’re stuffing your finished product.
