I designed the Beetlejuice Mitts as a birthday gift for my daughter Bryony.

Like many of us, she is obsessed by the movie and loves all things related to it.

I wanted to use the iconic Beetlejuice colours to create mitts that encapsulated the feel of the movie.

The hand is striped with black and white with the green and purple used for the cuffs.

Mitt Details

The mitts are worked in stocking stitch with a two colour cuff. The body of the mitt is striped and the thumb shaping uses a gusset construction.

I have used just a kfb increase for working the gusset increases which I find simple and effective. The increases are made in a way that means they are pretty much invisible in the fabric and gives a seamless look to the stripes.

The pattern contains 2 video tutorials showing my techniques for removing the thumb stitches and casting on over the gap and also placing them back on the needles and then closing that gap.

Sizes

The pattern contains 3 sizes - Small (hand circumference of 7 inches), Medium (hand circumference of 7.5 inches) and Large (hand circumference of 8 inches).

If you fall between 2 sizes I would suggest you knit the smaller of the 2 sizes as the mitts do have a little ease built in.

Instructions are written for the magic loop method, but other methods can of course be used.

Yarn

You will need 4 colours of fingering weight yarn. I would suggest you have 20g of each. For the size large I used 17g of the black and white, 8g for the green and 5g of the purple.

Specific yarns I used were -

Black - Cascade Heritage in ‘Real Black’
White - Cascade Heritage in ‘Snow’
Purple - Yarnsmiths Merino Sock in ‘Lavender’
Green - unknown mini from my stash
