Learn how to crochet the single crochet, half double crochet and the double crochet and make a wash cloth set in the process! We’ll even cover how to change colors when we make a multi-colored wash cloth. This pattern is a part of the Beginner Crochet Series, a free 20-part tutorial set created to teach you how to crochet. This post will include the written instructions for each of the four wash cloths as well as the video tutorial for each. Grab your hooks and let’s get started, shall we?

After adding the border and blocking, the wash cloths will measure approximately 8.5″ long by 6.5″ wide. The estimated gauge for the single crochet and multi-colored wash cloth is 7 stitches and 7 rows = 2″ square. The estimated gauge for the half double crochet wash cloth is 7 stitches and 7 rows = 2″ square. The estimated gauge for the double crochet wash cloth is 7 stitches and 4 rows = 2″ square. You may change hook size to obtain proper gauge if needed.

It is recommended that you crochet a border around your wash cloths, but is not absolutely required. The tutorial demonstrating how to do a single crochet border around each of the four wash cloths can be viewed at the end of this post.

You will only use approximately 50 yards of yarn for each wash cloth. If you purchase 3 full skeins, you will be able to make the complete set shown here and have some left over to make a couple more in the stitch of your choice.
