If you can crochet, then you can make this fabulous bell flower lariat type scarf / necklace. It’s three dimensional, more like an actual flower. If wool yarn is used try your hand at felting. I mean use the washing machine. It’s much easier. People will wonder how you did it, since the individual stitches can’t be seen once felted.
Instructions are given for several versions. If you like the more delicate look of a single flower or the bolder 3 flowers at each end, it’s your choice to make. Step by step photos are included. See the third photo for versions with one, two or three flowers, not felted and felted versions.
Try wearing it as a scarf or necklace. Wrap it around a couple of times for a choker or collar (collier) effect. or, wear it long and trailing. It can also be used as a belt or as a curtain tie-back.
This pattern is written in standard US and Canadian terms. It uses single, half double, double, and triple crochet stitches. The slip stitch is used to add dimension to the lariat and to travel within the piece, decreasing the number of ends to weave in. The flowers are worked separately and sewn to the stem.
Dimensions: 60 in. long (152 cm), each flower is about 4 in high with a 3 in. diameter. (10 x 8 cm)
The felted version is about 50 in. (127 cm) with the flowers being about 3.5 x 2 in. (9x5 cm)
For the single flower version, you will only need about 1/2 oz. (14 g) for the flower, 1 oz.(28 g) for the stem and about 1/2 oz. (14 g) for the stamens. For the 3 flower at each end version, you will need 2.5 oz. (70g) for the flowers.
