Bessies is one of the blankets featured in “Into the West” crochet blanket book.

Bessie’s blanket is my first crochet blanket and made in memory of my Granny Bessie, it is my version of the traditional granny square blanket
Bessie died at the age of 94 and was still knitting and crocheting blankets almost up until the day she died. Her blankets were all carried to the local Oxfam shop where she hoped they would be sent to war and famine torn countries. She watched the news avidly hoping to see a starving orphan cuddled and comforted in one of her blankets. I don’t think she ever did, but I like to think somewhere in the world there are people who were indirectly comforted by my granny.
