The Bestival Tam is funky, twisty, colourful and textured. Perfect for the cooler evenings of the summer festivals. Crocheted in varying weights of yarn and colours it is a great way to use up some of those oddments you just cannot bear to throw away. Worked in the round without seams and completely reversible, so you get two different looks for the price of one.

Materials
1 x 25g skein of Fingering Yarn (Yarn A)
1 x 50g skein of DK/Worsted Weight Yarn (Yarn B)…this will be your predominant colour.
Approx 25g each of two Aran weight yarns in different colours (Yarn C) and (Yarn D)
Tip: You could use two strands of DK together instead for each colour as long as they are bulky enough so they ‘pop’ through the stitches that have been worked in the lighter weight yarn.
Size 4.50mm crochet hook (US size 7)

Finished size
11 inches/28 cms approx across top of Tam.
1.5 inches/3.75 cms approx width of rim.
Diameter of top approx 33 inches/84 cms.
Diameter of headband approx 19 to 24 inches/48.5 cms to 58 cms from unstretched to stretched but easily adjustable.

Method
Crocheted in the round so no seaming. The Tam is started by making the centre motif and continuing in increasing circles to the outer edge, decreases are then made to shape the piece and finally the brim is worked to the desired fit.

This pattern is recommended for the confident beginner, who would like to try something a little more ambitious but a still relatively small project. It would be helpful to familiarise yourself with the fphdc stitch before beginning. Part Photo tutorial included.

PLEASE NOTE: yardage is wholly dependent on the yarns chosen and whether they are used singly or doubled.
