The bettafish is knit in one piece from the mouth of the fish down to the beginnings of the top and bottom fins. The sides of the fish are then knit separately, with two stitches added to each edge.

The top and bottom fins are knit from stitches picked up along the edges, in rows, on three needles. The openings in the body at the base of the fins are closed when the fins are knit. The fish is then stuffed, and the tail fins are knit from the stitches remaining on the needles at the end of the body.

The gills and the small front fins are knit from stitches picked up on the head. The eye sockets are knit separately as i cords, which are coiled, and craft eyes are inserted into the middle of the coil before attaching to the body.

This pattern is currently being updated. It was one of my first patterns and I think it needs some photos of the steps involved, and simplification of the pattern format. The pattern itself will not change, just the format, so if you want to get started now, I will send an update when it is finished. Thank you to those who have requested the bettafish.
