Bex’s Hat
Bex’s hat is the playful sibling to our popular free knitted hat pattern, Daniel’s hat. Both hats make the most of squishy brioche in the round and Bex’s hat gives you all the fun features of a pleasing knitted beanie that you’ll want to work up again and again. Choose the Bex hat to learn 2 colour brioche in the round (which is easier than working it flat). The pattern also includes the option to work simple decreases for the crown shaping or fully reversible decreases meaning you can progress your skills each time you knit the Bex’s hat. When you chose the reversible decreases, this hat is fully reversible which means you get 2 hats for 1 knit project!

Bex’s hat is perfect for combining a solid colour with a variegated or even self striping yarn. Or you could choose to use small amounts of yarn for a fade effect. Ysolda was so inspired by the Dashing DK colours from Qing Fibres used in this sample that she carefully calculated the yardage so that you can make 2 hats from 2 skeins and reverse which colour is used for the 2x2 rib band. Support your favourite indie dyer with a pattern designed to make the most of your precious skeins.

Our favourite detail? The crown shaping worked at 3 points with centred double decreases. It adds a pleasing visual detail as well as making for a good fit whether worn slouchy or nice and snug with the brim turned over. The canvas is yours to create with.

Size A: US 8 / 5mm 16” / 40cm circular needle and dpns or your preferred method of knitting small circumferences in the rnd.
Size B: US 6 / 4mm 16” / 40cm circular needle, for 2x2 ribbing.

20 sts and 36 rounds = 4” / 10cm in 2x2 rib in the round on needle B.
15 sts and 46 rounds (23 visible brk) = 4” / 10cm in brioche rib in the round on needle A.
