Bicycle Handlebar Grip Covers
After seeing Shara Ballard’s book “Craft Bomb Your Bike” I decided my bicycle needed more personality. These simple cotton handlebar grip covers provide breathable padding and coordinate with my new seat cover and decorations on my basket. Check out my blog at susiequte.blogspot.com for more pics of the complete project and ideas to deck out your bike with yarn goodies.
Cast on 13 sts, join to work in the round, and knit 44 rounds of garter stitch (in the round knit one row, then purl the next).
Row 45 purl
Row 46 knit 2 together to one stitch from end, k1 (7 sts remain).
Row 47 knit 2 together to one stitch from end, k1 (4 sts remain).
Row 48 knit 2 together one time, break yarn and thread through 3 remaining stitches. Pull tight and weave in ends.
You may need to adjust your gauge to fit your bike handles. My grip covers fit handles 4 1/2” long and just over 1” diameter.
Optional: add tassels to the end of each grip for more breezy fun.
