A great pattern for bulky handspun yarn; because it’s knit top-down, you can easily make it exactly as long as you want without having to guess when to start decreasing. The pattern suggests a crochet edge, but if you don’t like to crochet, you could knit the last 4 or 5 rows in seed stitch instead.

This super quick knit is a great basic hat for showing off an interesting bulky yarn, and the simplicity makes it great for beginners!

This hat is worked from the top down, on double pointed needles. If you prefer, you can switch to a circular needle once it gets big enough to fit.

The brim is crocheted, which gives it stability and keeps it from curling. If you really hate crochet, you can work an inch or so in seed stitch, or another non-curling stitch pattern of your choice.

There are notes on making adjustments if you want to make the hat in a different gauge - because it’s worked top down, it’s easy to make it in other weights and simply keep increasing until it’s wide enough.
