Bigger on the Inside
“I like the bit when someone says ‘It’s bigger on the inside.’ I always look forward to that.”
These toasty mittens are knit with a Doctor Who-inspired TARDIS design to keep you warm while you wait for your Doctor.
Both mittens are identical. The backs showcase the iconic silhouette of the TARDIS, while the palms feature a design inspired by the interior of the set used by Nine and Ten during Seasons 1-4.
This pattern is only available as a chart following traditional Selbu construction and comes with no written instructions. These mittens were designed to accommodate longer fingers than usual and have longer cuffs to keep out the cold.
These mittens will need between 220 and 260 yards of sport weight yarn. Pattern gauge of 8.25 stitches per inch using sport weight yarn will produce a 7.5” circumference mitten that is 11” long.
If you plan to line your mittens, make sure you knit them with an extra .5-.75” ease. You will need approximately 150-200 yards of fingering weight to make a loosely knit liner.
As always, adjusting your gauge and yarn weight to fingering (10 sts/in for 6.5” circumference), DK (7 sts/in for 8.75” circumference), or worsted (6 sts/in for 9.5” circumference) allows this chart to fit almost everyone as desired.
