These little birds are designed to be decorative. For example, you could knit white doves to hang on Christmas trees. They can also be toys… or, by knitting a set of four birds, you could create a mobile to hang in a child’s bedroom – the fun of batting little birds above their heads will keep babies occupied for hours!

Difficulty: Easy

You will need:
• 15g of wool in your chosen colour. A robust wool will help the wings stay in shape rather than flopping. I used Double Knit thickness (8-6 ply, “light worsted”.)
• Knitting needles – I used UK size 12 (2.75mm, US size 2.) Others who have knitted this pattern said that it worked best when they used a slightly smaller size for the wings.
• Blunt sewing needle with an eye big enough to thread your wool through
• Tiny little bit of darker wool to stitch the eyes
• Stuffing
• Thin wire to shape the wings if required. If you are creating the bird as a toy, it’s better to avoid using wire.
• Small amount of ribbon or wool to form the loop that the bird hangs from
