A bird’s song is made of many parts pieced together, arranged and rearranged continually to make a new song every time. This design follows the same idea, with parts that can be assembled in a variety of ways to create a new shawl every time.

The shawl begins as a triangle then transitions to a crescent, making either a deep crescent or a gentle triangle, depending on the ratio of each part used.

The two different sized feathers can be worked in either order, the feathered edge can be worked straight or alternated to form an elegant eyelet at the end of each feather, and each part of the shawl can be continued as long as you like.

Inspired by many elements: the intensely lush green of the Welsh countryside, the mythology woven into the history of the landscape, the beautiful birdsong we heard everywhere, the magical quality of the yarn, and a cheeky peacock met while wandering around a slumbering castle.

  • Beading optional.
  • Yardage variable.
  • Yarn weight if adaptable from lace to heavy fingering.
  • Pattern rows worked on the RS only.
  • Can be worked entirely from the written pattern or from charts with some notes.
