This Birthstone Cowl is designed to highlight your birthstone color in one skein of sport weight yarn. The pattern includes a chart of birthstones and their colors so you can figure out your birthstone (or someone else’s if it is a gift), which is part of the fun! If you don’t love your birthstone color you can look up your astrological sign’s color, or Chinese astrology color too!

It starts with a lace section, in the Bear Track pattern, and shifts into a simple no-needle cable section that you knit until you have just enough left to graft the ends together, to make the most of one skein. The lace pattern is fun to watch come together, the i-cord edging makes for clean lines, and the cable section is done with twisted stitches instead of a cable needle, and once the pattern is established it makes for easy TV/movie knitting.

The pattern can be easily adapted to other yarn weights, as gauge is not crucial for this project.

Skills needed: provisional cast on, Kitchener grafting, simple lace, knit and purl stitches, k2tog, YO, skp, twisted stitches.
