Of course there’s a story behind the name of this scarf. Both my girls and I have read Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight series. If you’re one of the 5 people in the world who doesn’t know them, they are a series of young adult books based on the story of Bella, a young girl in love with Edward, who is a vampire. While we enjoyed the books for the most part, we all three agree that Bella is stupid. Stupid in a way that we don’t care for our female characters to be. Stupid in the way that none of us (thank heavens) happen to be. We like to think we’re smarter than the girl who doesn’t realize she’s going to the prom when she’s dressed in a prom dress on prom night. (I mean, really. Come on.)

Anyhow, whenever one of us does or says something stupid, we call each other “Bella”. Like when I locked my keys and phone inside a client’s house, and had to borrow a phone from a neighbor to call Casey, she replied “Okay Bella, we’ll be right there.”

And the natural response to being called Stupid Bella, who is in love with a vampire, is of course, “Bite me.”

Get it?

So it’s a scarf to hide the bite marks when you’ve been stupid. I’m making it for Pippin, she of the black & white wardrobe. If you like, think of the black and white as Edward and Jacob. I love the cable edging, the way it curves around and makes a rounded edge. The purl stitches along the cabled edge remind me of fangs.
