The design of this felted plaid mini-backpack bag pattern is based on a leather mini-backpack I had seen online.

The design utilizes the intarsia method of knitting: each block is a separate bobbin of yarn. The thing to remember is to cross the color you are want to knit from….over the color you are dropping to tie the color blocks together. It’s actually easy - and my intarsia experience is very limited!

The top of the bag can be cinched smaller by pulling and tying the I-cord that runs around the top edge of the bag. I attached purchased drapery tassels to the ends of the I-cord.

Also, the straps on the back can be adjusted for use as a mini-backpack or as a purse.

To create as shown, this pattern requires:

  • One purchased purse latch set
  • Two snap fasteners to fasten and adjust the shoulder straps at the bottom of the bag
  • Two tassels
