pattern currently unavailable, but will be re-released soon. This design has been reformatted to include an additional size, adjustments have been made to the dimensions of the finished piece, and the sample has been reknit in a widely available yarn. In general, it has been completely updated to be inline with my current body of work :)

If you would like to be notified when it becomes available again, PM me with your email address.

This hat was inspired by the hat that Emily Deschanel wore in the Bones episode, The Blackout in the Blizzard. It is a slouchy tam with a pom pom, and fully finished crown decreases (to allow knitters to omit the pom pom if it’s not their thing).

To knit this pattern, you will need:

  • aprox 125yds of chunky weight yarn
  • one 16” US 9 (5.5mm) circular needle, one 16” US 10.5 (6.5mm) circular needle, and one set of US 10.5 (6.5mm) DPN; or size necessary to hit the gauge.
  • stitch markers
  • cable needle
  • darning needle
  • large pom pom maker (optional)

To make a beret instead of a tam, work the body shorter.
Special thanks to Jen Gillis for test knitting, helping track down the stitch, and supplying photos.
