Summer shrug
Easy and fast knit with a lot of lace, for summer time.

Tools:

  • 3.0 mm (US 2.5) 60 cm / 24 inch circular needles, or needles needed to get gauge;
  • BOR (Beginning Of Round) marker
  • a long stitch holder or scrap yarn for holding live stitches
  • crochet hook for picot bind off size 3 – 3.5 mm (corresponding to your needle size)

Sizes:
1.5 (2, 4) 6 (8, 10) 12 years to fit a chest circumference of 48 (53, 58.5) 63.5 (67, 71) 76 cm / 19 (21, 23) 25 (26.5, 28) 30 inch and to fit 21.5 (23.5, 24.1) 24.8 (26.0, 27.3) 28.6 cm / 8.5 (9.3, 9.5) 9.8 (10.3, 10.8) 11.3 inch shoulder width. Choose a size based on the cross back measurement if possible. You can use chest circumference to choose a size if you do not have a cross back measurement.

Yarn: lace to fingering. Swatch and see if you like the fabric at that gauge with your yarn.

Gauge:
Gauge is given in repeats of the pattern stitch. In a 10 x 10 cm square you should have: 3.5 repeats stitch-wise, 4 repeats row-wise

The gauge in stockinette stitch for the same needles and yarn is:
28 sts and 38 rows in 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 inches) in stockinette stitch.
But this gauge is not as important, as you should base your needles and yarn on the pattern stitch. The stockinette gauge may help you figure out a needle size range to swatch with for the pattern gauge or help with yarn choice or substitution.

Yardage:
201 (238, 266) 295 (330, 389) 453 meters / 220 (261, 291) 322 (361, 425) 494 yards

Ease
This shrug can be knit with no ease, or with up to 5 cm / 2 inches of positive ease. You will find instructions in the pattern. The sample has about 2.5 cm / 1 inch of positive ease. Positive ease in this case gives more room in the sleeves and a wider body opening.
