Meet the Bloomsbury Cushion, a 1920s style pattern inspired by the Bloomsbury group!

Worked in a myriad of contrast colors, this project proves to be the perfect example of “potato-chip knitting.” Just one more wedge, just one more! Okay, maybe one more! But I’m so close.. how about one more.

The front of the cushion is worked in flat in short rows, and it is so fun to watch the circular shape come to life! The cast on and bind off edge are joined seamlessly during the bind off, making the join appear invisible on the right side. The back of the pillow is picked up, joined in the round, and worked down towards the center, which makes the whole cushion process seamless. It is also a no-ends projects, as all the ends will simply roam free in the middle of the cushion!

While I have seen a handful of circular cushion patterns floating around, this one stands apart by the unique construction. The back side is deliberately shaped in a manner that brings the outer edge of the front around to the back. This means no seam line around the cushion, no seaming in general, and a deliberate back to the cushion that can be placed on a seat, on the floor, or as a sofa / armchair pillow.

This pattern, along with dozens of other vintage inspired patterns, is available exclusively at Squid’s School of Vintage Knitting. Come over and join in the fun!
