Blooom has been in my wardrobe for almost 6 months already! It took me a little while to write the pattern down - when I have little spare time I prefer to knit…. Waiting for the pattern to be written I have enjoyed wearing this little beauty SO much! It is the most feminine cardigan in my wardrobe; I love the cropped length, the lace details of the collar, the cuffs, the “pocket” edgings, the eyelet pattern that binds everything together following the button bands and the raglan-shaping. I often wear black and I like the way that my camisole can be seen through the eyelets. Sometimes I wear it with all 8 buttons closed, sometimes I just close the upper button, sometimes I let it be open.

It has so many possibilities; as lovely worn over a dress as over my favorite pair of jeans.

Please note: in order to give you possibilities of working the cardigan to desired length the pattern gives instructions for working the buttonband/buttonhole-band from picked up stitches.

Construction Blooom is worked in a seamless way and bottom-up. Lower body is worked back and forth, sleeves are worked in-the-round (lace-cuffs are worked top-down later), sleeves and body are joined for working the upper body with raglan decreases. Buttonbands/buttonholes are worked from picked-up sts.. Collar/cuffs/pocket edgings are worked in the end from picked up and/or spared stitches.

Sizes 6 sizes available: 34/36/38/40/42/44” finished chest. The cardigan is supposed to be fitted, but not clingy. The pattern gives measurements for a cropped cardigan, but it could as well be worked as a longer model.

Material I used a blend of alpaca/silk, fingering weight yarn to work the cardigan: Sandnes Garn’s Alpakka/Silke, which comes in balls of 50gr/1.76oz and 199m/218yards. You need 4/4/5/5/6/6 balls to work the cardigan. If you want to add length to body and/or sleeves you need to count for more wool.

Notions The same needle size is used for the whole cardigan; circular needles for the lower and upper body, dpns (or circular) for the sleeves. I used needles 3mm/2.5US - but this is a suggestion only. Check your gauge before getting started:)

Gauge 26 sts and 40 rows in stockinette stitch.

Knitting skills You need average skills to work the cardigan. The abbreviations used are: k, p, k2tog, ssk, yo, m1r, m1l, sl2(as if to k2tog)k1psso.

The pattern. Please note that the buttonhole-band/the button bands are worked from picked-up stitches in the pattern. There is a note on how you can work them if you want to integrate them (as in the photos). The pattern guides you through the process in a comprehensible way. There are helpful notes on possible modifications. All measurements are in cm’s as well as inches. All necessary stitch-counts are given. The eyelet and lace-patterns comes with charts as well as written row-by-row instructions.
