My favorite part of Cast On is reading all of the Beyond the Pattern notes. I love to see where designers get ideas and how they name their pattern. In the case of this particular design, a convergence of elements led to the creation of this sweater. First was the yarn—I love Rios, and this color called to me as it evokes an image of cherry blossoms in spring. Hence the pattern name. Second, the leafy lace stitch pattern caught my attention, adding another layer of charm to the design. Finally, I wanted to try out the fully-fashioned shoulder with a different sleeve type, something I call the super-modified drop shoulder. I’m sure it’s got a correct name somewhere in the knitting lexicon, but this is what I call it. The result is an angle that just about continues the angle of the shoulder. I’m thrilled with the final result and excited to share it with you. I think the sweater would make a lovely transitional piece from winter into spring.
