The Bluegum Forest Blanket is worked in a medium weight woollen yarn to create a warm wrap for a baby or a toasty lap rug for a grown-up.

The design places Japanese-style lace on a reverse stocking stitch ground, with textured lace leaves framed by cables which trellis up the blanket. A nubbly border creates an attractive edging.

The inspiration for this design comes from the Bluegum Forest, which is a special place in the Australian bush. It is in a deep valley in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney, a cool and shady place under the tall eucalypts beside the Grose River.

The yarn required is about 730 metres (800 yards), depending on your gauge. The pattern calls for a pure wool Aran-weight yarn with a yardage of 150 metres (164 yards) per 100 grams. The blanket shown uses Bendigo Woollen Mills Luxury 10 ply in colour Blue Denim.

The blanket is 90 cm (35.5 in) wide and 107 cm (42 in) long when blocked. The pattern contains information on how to adapt the size to create a larger blanket.

The pattern has charts and line by line written instructions.

The blanket is worked in one piece, knitting sideways across the width. The required stitches are knit, purl, yarnover, k2 together, ssk, centred and slanting double decreases, twisted knits and purls and a cable across five stitches. There is some patterning on the reverse side, using knit, purl and purl through the back loop.
