Haven’t we all been to a craft fair or our local yarn store and bought two nice skeins of differently colored yarn? Perhaps not enough to do a large project but maybe we could find a pattern that would only require two skeins. Why not knit Bobble Fun?

Bobble Fun is a two-skein-wonder. It can be knitted with any yarn weight and any yarn. All you need is two contrasting yarns of the same weight: two solids, one solid or semi solid combined with a color gradient, or two color gradients that go well together as a pair but that are distinctive enough to make out the individual modules – all these are possibilities.

Depending on the tightness of your knitting and the weight of your yarn you will need at least 300 yards of each color, if you knit loosely. I prefer to knit a bit tighter with thinner needles (2.5mm) and I used 820 yards of each color for a large version (made with Wollbonbon Merino 4 ply - 82”/204cm wingspan - 18.5”/47cm depth) and 600 yards of each color for a medium version (made with Wollmeise Pure - 68”/174cm wingspan - 17.5”/44cm depth). The smallest version presented in the pictures was knitted with two skeins of Lieblingsstück 100% merino. I used 390 yards of each color and 3mm needles (65“/164cm wingspan - 14.5“/37cm depth).

Bobble Fun is a fully reversible shawl. One side will highlight Yarn A and the other side will highlight Yarn B. So you will get two for the price of one. Although Bobble Fun is a modular knit there is no seaming involved as you will knit all the modules together as you go. Nor will you have to weave in a lot of loose ends. Only four to be precise, which is the best you can do when knitting an item with two different yarns.

Because the instructions are given in written AND in charted form I have created two shorter pdfs rather than one very large one. One with just the written instructions and the other with just charts. Both versions contain complete guidelines and graphics. They are enriched with ample photo tutorials on the techniques of shaping and joining the modules. This makes Bobble Fun a doable project for most knitters.

If you would like to knit Bobble Fun at some point in the future, don’t hesitate to get your pattern now, as this weekend (20th and 21st of June EST) it is on sale for 25% off the original price of $5.99 – no coupon code required. So grab it while you can ! ! !

Happy Knitting !!!
