This is the second design from knitabulous yarn’s Indian Summer Yarn Club.

The pictures of the shawl for the pattern don’t really help in explaining the ‘two spine’ thing. I’ve added a few at the bottome pre-dyeing to show it a bit better. It’s not a triangular shawl..

What happens is that on every row you increase at the two ends just after the 3 garter stitches.

ALSO, on every right side row, you increase on either side of 2 ‘spines’. Most triangular shawls have a single spine down the centre, this one has two spines dividing the shawl into thirds. It means it turns out a little more crescent shaped, and fits over the shoulders well even though it’s only small.

Anyway, row 4 goes like this exactly (you could place markers at the spines) :

Row 4: k3, yo, k2(the last stitch being the yo from the previous right side row), yo, PM, k1, PM, yo, k3, yo, pm, k1, pm, yo, k2 (the first stitch being the yo from the prevous rs row), yo, k3

Row 5: K3, yo, k15, yo, k3

Row 6: k3, yo, k5, yo, sm, k1, yo, sm, k5, yo, sm, k1, sm, yo, k5, yo, k3

Row 7: k3, yo, k23, yo, k3

Row 8: k3, yo, k8, yo, sm, k1, sm, yo, k7, yo, sm, k1, sm, yo, k8, yo, k3

and so on…
