I was browsing through the internet and came across a similar pattern. The squares were not what I was wanting. So, I decided to just make my own. I was hoping for something that would accommodate self striping yarn. I used Pinwheel Yarn by Cascade in Color 05 – Petunias.
The yarn is very soft and 100% acrylic. Great for baby blankets. I did find it a bit splity, but that was okay.

I started with a garter stitch border, but it folded up. So I ripped out and did a seed stitch border which I absolutely hate doing. The bottom border laid flat, but the sides folded in. Not a fan of that. In hindsight, I would add more garter ridges to the bottom and do a garter border up the sides. If any knitter would like to try that, please let me know how it works out.

I was able to work the beginning border and 15 box repeats with the first skein. I used all but one yard of the second skein. On the third skein, my plan was to work 14 box repeats and then the border. I could only accomplish 8 box repeats as I was ready to move on to something else.
