Needle size update For throwers, a needle size 7 and 8 is recommended. Continental knitters (pickers) will usually achieve the same gauge with the smaller needle size stated in the pattern. Thanks to OhQBarb for pointing out her experience with the recommended needle size!

This two-color hat is a great project for using up remnants of variegated or hand-painted yarn in combination with a matching solid color.

It is worked from the bottom up in rounds in an uncomplicated slip stitch pattern, one color at a time.

The horizontal braid rounds dividing individual sections look similar to an Estonian Braid or Vikkel Braid, but are much easier to make with the help of a crochet hook. A photo-tutorial for this technique can be found on pages 6 and 7 of the pattern.

Needles: US 4 (3.5 mm) for the cuff
US 6 (4 mm) for the hat or needle size per gauge
– 16” (40 cm) circular+DPNs or (2) circs for Magic Loop
– US C or D (3 mm) crochet hook for the braided rounds
– 3+1 stitch markers

Difficulty level: medium. Co, k, p, k2tog, ssk, working in the round on DPNs or in Magic Loop, slip sts, bo. The braided round is easy to learn from the enclosed photo-tutorial and fun to make, even for non-crocheters. It may be substituted with a garter stitch ridge.

Diese mehrfarbige Mütze ist hervorragend zur Resteverwertung geeignet, vor allem für Farbverlaufs- oder handgefärbte Garne in Verbindung mit einem passenden einfarbigen Hauptfarbengarn. Das Hauptgarn sollte einfarbig sein, damit das Gitterwek der Kästchen am besten zur Geltung kommt.

Die Mütze wird von unten nach oben in Runden in einem unkomplizierten Hebemaschenmuster gestrickt, jeweils nur eine Farbe pro Reihe.
Die geflochten aussehenden Häkelzöpfe sind von estnischem Flechtwerk (Vikkel Braid) kaum zu unterscheiden, werden jedoch bedeutend einfacher mit einer Häkelnadel gearbeitet. Dazu gibt es eine ausführliche Fotoanleitung auf den Seiten 6 und 7 der Anleitung.
Die Anweisungen sind rundenweise mit Gesamtmaschenangaben für jede Größe extra ausgeschrieben.

Schwierigkeitsgrad: mittel. M anschl., abk., re.+li M, Arbeit in Runden mir Nadelspiel oder Magic Loop, M abheben. Die Häkelzopfrunde ist mit dem in der Anleitung enthaltenen Fotokurs einfach nachzuarbeiten, auch wenn man sonst nicht häkeln kann. Sollte sie sich trotzdem als zu schwer erweisen, kann sie durch eine Krausrippe ersetzt werden.
