Boxwood uses just two stitches – knits and purls – and moves from ribbing to seed stitch to simple diamonds, and then to stockinette stitch for the shaping at the top. The instructions are written, and a chart for the Diamond Band is included.

Skill Level: Beginner/Intermediate

Gauge: In stockinette stitch and with US6/4mm needles, after blocking: 21 stitches=4 in/10 cm.

Finished Measurements (after blocking): Circumference about 17.5 (19, 20.5) in/ 44.5 (48, 52) cm; length about 9.5 (10, 10.5) in/24 (25.5, 27) cm. Lengths listed are for a slightly slouchy hat; for a shorter or longer fit, simply work the stockinette section to your desired length before beginning the shaping.

Yarn: About 130-150 yards Clara Yarn CVM-Romedale 1.0. Each skein is approximately 300 yards and 4 oz/114 grams. Another DK weight yarn may be substituted, but please swatch to find the ideal needle and gauge.
