Notes
Brandur gets its name from a tiny, grassy, Icelandic island in the volcanic Vestmannaeyjar archipelago. This cheerful circular yoked pullover is inspired by Icelandic Lopapeysa style sweaters with a few notable differences. First, it’s worked from the top down. The beginning is worked flat with a split in the back before joining to work the rest in the round, and a short button band is later installed. This design feature is especially functional in the smaller sizes, as anyone who’s tried to put a pullover on a big-headed toddler can attest. It also includes short-row shaping in the back for a comfortable fit at the front neckline. Finally, it’s worked in soft and cozy Malabrigo Chunky for a snuggly sweater that even a wool-averse kid can love.

Tips
-The yoke portion of the sweater can be easily converted to work entirely in the round, if you wish to avoid working the first several rows of stranded colorwork flat. See the note at the beginning of the pattern section for details.
-Be sure to swatch both in plain stockinette and the stranded colorwork pattern to ensure that your gauge matches for both. To keep your floats relaxed, go up a needle size (or more) for the colorwork sections if necessary.
-You’ll need needles for working small, medium, and large circumferences in the round for this sweater. If you prefer to use Magic Loop for small circumferences, you can forgo the 16”/40cm and/or DPNs in each size.
