This pattern comes in .doc file format.

No specific yarn is given in the pattern, it just says 100% cotton 8/4.

Gauge is not given in the pattern, however in the yarn section of the site you can find it:
_ with 2 mm needles, 32 sts and 44 rows = 10 cm x 10 cm
_ with 2½ mm needles, 28 sts and 39 rows = 10 cm x 10 cm

2 mm double pointed (or circular) needles are recommended for colorwork.
