DESCRIPTION

Bright & Beautiful Shawl is lacy cowl in worsted weight yarn, perfect for cool fall weather. One of my favorite hymns is “All Things Bright and Beautiful” which describes the many lovely things in creation, including flowers. So the lace pattern for this cowl creates a garden of flowers, complete with pathways between the flower beds. Both charted and written instructions are included for the lace, which is an adaptation of a stitch pattern found in 50 Fabulous Knit Stitches by Rita Weiss. It’s a quick knit and a one skein wonder which makes it a nice weekend or vacation project. I hope you will find this cowl to be both a bright and beautiful addition to your wardrobe. Happy Knitting!

MATERIALS & INFO

Yarn: Sample shown using Berroco Ultra Alpaca in “Oceanic Mix” – 1 skein (215 yds/100 grams). I only used about 180 yards, but it’s good to have extra in case you want to make the cowl larger than the sample. Feel free to use your favorite worsted weight yarn in a “flowery” colorway – solid or semi-solid would work best to let the lace shine.

Gauge: 4 st x 6 rows = 1”x 1”, gauge is not critical, but will affect size and yarn requirements

Needles: US 8 /5 mm 29” circular needle

Notions: Tapestry Needle (for weaving in ends), stitch markers

Finished size: 11.5” tall x 24” around
