Enjoy lots of graphic chevrons with this two-color brioche shawl design. The pattern begins at the corner with one chevron motif. Then, more chevrons are achieved one a time with an I-cord cast on technique to expand the shape. You can customize the size easily by binding off early or continue to knit more pattern repeat for a big shlanket (shawl/blanket). The sample features Qing Fibre’s fingering weight Yak Single for the main color with my favorite Melted Baby Suri alpaca yarn for the contrast color.

Finished Measurements
100” / 254cm wingspan length, 46” / 117cm along the center point when the wingspan is stretched out. Measurements taken after blocking.

Yarn
Fingering weight

Yardage
MC - 800yds / 732m
CC - 760yds / 695m

If you are using the recommended yarn, you will need 2 skeins MC (Yak Single) + 4 skeins CC (Melted Baby Suri)

Shown in
Qing Fibre Yak Single (65% Merino Wool, 20% Silk, 15% Yak; 437yds / 400m per 100g skein or 525yds / 480m per 120g skein)
MC - Rothko

Qing Fibre Melted Baby Suri (65% Suri Alpaca, 20% Wool, 15% Silk; 191yds / 175m per 50g skein)
CC - Sunflower Maze

If you are using a fluffy alpaca or mohair yarn, I recommend using it as the CC for a fluffy background.

You can knit this pattern with any fingering weight yarn! You don’t need to have a fluffy yarn for the CC if you want a smoother non-fluffy shawl fabric. Using two colors of fingering weight wool will also make a beautiful graphic Briochevron Shawl.

Needles
US 5 / 3.75mm circular in 24” / 60cm length or size needed to obtain gauge.

Notions
Tapestry needle

Gauge
15 sts & 20 rows = 4” / 10cm in two-color brioche after blocking

Errata
12-09-22 - I updated the Briochevron Shawl to correct the CC RS rows on page 4. You can download the new PDF briochevron_shawl_2.pdf. I also included some video links to help with the I-cord techniques in this pattern.
