This intricately worked hat is inspired by the smart little berets that were popular throughout the 1920s and 30s. Beginning with a neat 1x1 twisted rib, it combines a variety of interesting techniques such as beading, diamond-shaped lace and purl motifs, and delicate columns of twisted knit stitches. The beret shape is encouraged by blocking it carefully over a plate during the finishing process, but for a more modern, close-fitting beanie style it can simply be blocked flat instead.
