Stranded colourwork sock knit from the toe up, with gusset and heel flap.

Allow 100g (384m) of background colour and 50g (192m) of foreground colour for calf length socks.

This pattern can be easily adapted to knee-high length, but you will need more foreground colour, 100g is recommended

The bug on the bottom of the foot is optional, if you don’t fancy it, leave it off and just work the sole in checkerboard instead. If you have very petite feet (less than 20cm long) you won’t be able to fit in the sole bug.

The bug is an adaption of a chart fillet crochet chart from Le Filet Brodé, Number 5 by A. Crespel c. 1900.

Instalment two for the Vintage Purls Sock Club Winter 2010.
