This pattern is part of the book Stitching in the Stacks, based on the idea of “What would a librarian wear/use?” In the classic Tracy/Hepburn vehicle Desk Set (1957), Katherine Hepburn plays Bunny Watson, reference librarian extraordinaire. Brainy, romantic, and a very sharp dresser, Bunny would be perfectly at home in Karin Wilmoth’s crisp vest. The field of daisies over the bodice balance the tailored shaping with feminine details, while the color is a reminder of Bunny’s green tulle ballgown, bought in hopes of finally being asked to this year’s dance. This pattern creates facings as you go to give clean, streamlined edges. Short row shaping is used in the fronts to create a stylish detail. The waistcoat is meant to hit at mid-hip, and buttons with 3/4” buttons: 5 buttons for sizes XS & S; 6 for the four larger sizes.
