This hat is knit in the round from bottom up and creates 3 different butterfly motifs that look like they are embroidered onto the fabric.

The butterflies are knit using a slipped stitch (mosaic) cabling technique. Only one colour is worked at a time.

Instructions are included for a child’s and an adult’s hat. The pattern is for a hat with 3 butterflies but it can be adapted to only have one motif.

Two colours of fingering weight yarn are used. The pattern works well with solid, tonal or variegated yarns -- only one of the yarns should be variegated. You only need 100 yards of each colour for a child’s hat or 115 yards of each colour for an adult’s hat. It is a great stashbuster.
