One of my oldest friends asked me to knit a butterfly shawl for her.
I seldom knit for others, but this was special for me so I accepted. And for this very rare friend I wanted to give not only a knitted shawl but one that I had designed myself.
The Butterfly Friendship Shawl will provide a big warm hug, and keep you cosy during dark winter nights, when all you want is to remember the beautiful butterflies you saw on last summer’s flowery meadow.

21 Stitch markers
Tapestry needle
4.0 mm / US6 circular needles minimum 80 cm / 32”, or size needed to obtain gauge after blocking

Yarn
The yarn I used in my sample is unfortunately hard to find online. Instead I recommend a wonderful non-superwash yarn from the Swedish indie-dyer Moods of Colors. Available in her webshop.
Moods of Colors Best Wishes from Devon, 100% BFL 400m/100g:
MC: 400 meters / 440 yards
CC: 400 meters /440 yards
Or other Fingering weight yarn 400m/100g
MC: 400 meters / 440 yards
CC: 400 meters / 440 yards

Gauge
On 4.0 mm / US6 needles:
22 sts and 46 rows = 10x10 cm /4x4” in garter stitch before blocking
20 sts and 38 rows = 10x10 cm / 4x4” in garter stitch after blocking
Proposed needle size is for an average knitter
For shawls, gauge is only a guideline, although gauge you have will affect the finished size of the shawl and the amount of yarn used.

Measurements after blocking
Wingspan: 190 cm / 75”
Depth: 60 cm / 24”
