Like so many knitting patterns, this one began with a holiday, two half-skeins of yarn and a best friend in need of a gift.

Because the friend in this instance is a knitter, I knew that I needed to make something unusual for her - something she wouldn’t necessarily make for herself but that she would love to wear. Thus, the Button Up Fingerless Gloves.

The cuff on these gloves is knit flat; the hand is knit in the round. Combining both techniques looks terribly fancy (without feeling terribly fancy to knit).

Subtle shaping in the hand makes for a great fit and simple style that still allows the cuff, with its unusual wave stitch pattern and mismatched buttons, to completely steal the show.
