The cable band is knitted first,(If ear warmer, that’s all you need) then turned on it’s side to pick up stitches on long side for hat. This allows alot of stretch if you have trouble casting on loose to add ease. If your gauge is not exact, it doesn’t matter. The band is knitted to 17” or 18” for a 20-22” head circumference. I use the double pointed needles to make band then the 16” to make crown finishing with double point on the crown decreases. That way a third pair of size 9’s in straight needles are not necessary. Most skeins of yarn can complete the hat at 100 yards. A quick Knit, You don’t have to stop with the horseshoe cable or 3x3 cable. Any design would work, such as eyelets, bobble, popcorns, diamond patterns, or a plain garter stitch if you don’t like to do patterns.Your hat, your design! Also any worsted yarn will work, the softer yarns feels the best, while keeping your ears warm.

The pattern for this pattern is the same pattern for the “Ridged Cable Banded Hat Pattern” so if you buy this one, don’t purchase the other one. They are all the same.

I did some experimenting, after you knit the band. Sew it together with the Kitchener Stitch, it makes the join invisible. Then with yarn PU and knit the top part of the hat, following the original directions.

I carry the yarns listed, if you are interested in one of them please feel free to contact me.
