YARN, GAUGE, SIZE AND MACHINE
Use #3 yarn. Or very light #4 yarn. Gauge is 5 stitches/inch. Because various yarns will get different row gauges when the stitch size is adjusted perfectly, row gauges of 6, 7, and 8 per inch are included. This is important to fit because rows make the circumference of the hat in this design. The design is really intended for mid-gauge machines. Bulkies can also manage it but on them crossing the cables will be harder. The collar finishes to 20” in circumference. For most women this gives 6-7” of ease over the actual size of the neck. You may adjust collar length by adding or subtracting rows. Do so in increments of 4 rows. The closure is a faux closure. The collar actually pulls on over the head. So any button may be used to create the illusion. A ribber is not necessary.

THE CABLE & TUCKED PURL
Use the same cable as for the Cable-Go-Round hat described on page 5. The chart that represents it visually is on page 5. The 8 stitches at the center of the collar are worked just like those for the hat. The difference is the total number of stitches in work and what we do to finish the garment. A tucked purl column sets off the cable and is also described on page 5, in the cable paragraph.
