A classic unisex look. The cable looks hard but absolutely is NOT. I made a video on making braided cables to help you.

YARN, GAUGE, SIZE
AND MACHINE
Use #3 yarn. Wool is preferred because it blocks to shape better than other fibers. Gauge is 5 stitches/inch. Because various yarns will get different row gauges when the stitch size is adjusted perfectly, row gauges of 6, 7, and 8 per inch are included. This is important to fit because rows make the circumference of the hat in this design. The design is really intended for mid-gauge machines. Bulkies can also manage it but on them crossing the cables will be harder. Sizes are to fit adult heads. Choose the knitted size that is 1-2” smaller than the actual head circumference, depending on how snug a fit you prefer.
