Allover braided cables on stockinette (stocking) stitch make a scrumptious fabric. This is a versatile hat, and you can easily customize it to suit men, women, or youth. For a younger wearer, try making the hat slouchier by working an extra repeat of the cable pattern. For a traditional toque, you can work twice as many rows of ribbing for a folded rim. And for a whimsi- cal wintery look, try topping it with a pom-pom or tassel.
