The Cableweave Hat, accented with an intricately woven cable on one side, works up quickly in a bulky weight yarn. Rapid decreases create a gathered effect at the crown. When wearing the hat, try varying the cable placement to see where it looks best on you! (Note that one side of the hat is plain stockinette, as shown in two of the photos; the hat has been rotated for the final photo, to show the cable on the right instead of left side of the head.)

Yarn #5 Bulky weight, 90 (115, 150, 185 yd/85 (105, 140, 170) m. Shown in Cascade Yarns 128 Superwash (100% superwash merino wool, 128 yd/117m to 3.5 oz/100g), color #309 Granite Green, 1 (1, 2, 2) skeins.

Needles US Size 9 (5.5 mm) in preferred style for small circumference knitting in the round. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions Markers, cable needle, tapestry needle.

Gauge 16 sts and 23 rows = 4” in Stockinette stitch. Measure gauge on blocked swatch.

Notes
This hat is worked in the round from the bottom up, on needles one size smaller than suggested on ball band, to create a slightly denser and warmer fabric. Instructions for the cable stitch pattern are given in chart form only.
