Caledonian Magic
This can be a great first cable project for the advanced beginner.
This pattern uses cable stitches on only one row of an eight row pattern. Very simple for such beautiful results!
This pattern requires a wool or wool blend yarn. The warm water soak at the end of knitting is essential for the “magic” to work to get the cables to lay flat. Only wool will relax appropriately in warm water. If you do want to use another type of yarn, you may want to make a larger size.
You can increase or decrease the length of this cowl by adding/subtracting multiples of 12 stitches. Add to the height of the cowl by adding pattern repeats.
UPDATED 2/26/2014 to include additional sizes and metric conversions. Pattern name changed too.
“Caledonia” is the ancient name for what we now call Scotland. It’s a beautiful word that for me brings to mind medieval times and rolling green hills and forests.
