This is a pattern for a toddler / older baby hat with three-dimensional cat ears. It works for all sorts of worsted weight yarns, but I think it comes out particularly nice in a variegated yarn for the calico effect.

The knitting techniques are simple: flat knitting of ribbing and stockinette, and k2tog decreases. The ears are created with a few folds and sewn on after the hat is finished, so they can be placed wherever you like.

As of March 27, 2011 this pattern has been updated with re-written, hopefully clearer instructions and photographs in the pattern. There is also a new version available, the Almost Seamless Calico Kitty Hat which is knit in the round.

This pattern is free for personal or charity use, but please do not profit from my work.
