This is a variation on the diamond stole in Victorian Lace Today - instead of squared ends, the ends here taper to points. It is knit from one point to the other, and can have beads added. The border is worked in garter stitch and the middle diamond pattern in stockinette stitch - you could, of course, change this combination without much change in the quantity of yarn required.

Just FYI - the symmetry of the color repeat in the sample shawl was a happy accident.

The pattern is charted and takes virtually all of the 800m in a ball of Zauberball Lace. There are directions included for finding the midpoint of your shawl, so you can knit the largest shawl possible with your yarn, accommodating variations in gauge.
